I was born in Lovell, Wyoming to John and Judy Morgan. My parents raised me in northern Wyoming on a small ranch outside of Burlington. Growing up all I ever wanted to be was a cowboy. I guess I kind of came by it naturally because of the family I've been blessed with. My dad and older brothers were cowboys; I really looked up to them and wanted to follow in their footsteps.
I would ride anything I could climb on as it was all I wanted to do. My brother John rode bucking horses and after watching him, I was eager to try my hand. I got my chance at a very early age by riding sheep, and soon moved up the line riding calves, steers, bucking horses, and finally bulls. I rode bulls and occasionally bareback and saddle bronc horses in high school rodeo, which earned me a substantial rodeo scholarship in college. After college, I pursued a professional career in rodeo for five years. Bull riding was my passion. I loved it and lived for the competition. In 2005, I decided to break away from rodeo and focus my energy on my other passion, riding colts.
Horses have always been a very important part of my life, and an animal I am extremely passionate about. Ross Brewer from Meeteetse, Wyoming gave me my first opportunity to start colts when I was 10 years old. Working with these horses was captivating and I would ride them at every opportunity. I knew very little about horses at this age, but I tried my best to get along with them. At that time, I didn't train these horses, I just used them by giving them a job to do on our modest ranch. They weren't all that handy, but they were gentle and I could ride them just about anywhere I needed to get my work done. I rode a few outside horses for other people and continued starting colts for Ross through high school. I didn't make a lot of money, but Ross always made sure I had a nice colt of my own.
I have had many opportunities to further my horsemanship knowledge, which I am very thankful for. I am especially grateful for the help and guidance Bryan Neubert has offered me through his horsemanship and colt starting clinics. With Bryan's help, I discovered a whole new world of horsemanship. I will never forget the first clinic I attended of Bryan's as I was utterly inspired by what I saw, it completely changed the way I thought about and communicated with my horses. After attending my first and all succeeding clinics, I have realized there is always something more to discover and improve on, and that horsemanship is truly a life long learning experience. I strongly encourage anyone to attend one of Bryan and Patty Neubert's clinics. (You can find their schedule at www.bryanneubert.com.)
I believe you never stop learning as long as you are willing to keep searching and keep that hunger for more knowledge. I feel incredibly fortunate for the many opportunities I have been given and am especially thankful for the people who have helped me. I am truly blessed to be able to wake up every morning excited to get to work and eager to see what my day has in store. I try to learn something new everyday and strive to make a difference in a horse's life by showing them a better deal.
